Short story I wrote for a contest at work. I will let you know if I win. I had to use like 30 or so keywords and also had to keep it under 500 words so that is why it is like super rushed.... anyways feedback would be k3wl.

A crow squawked, as if laughing at me. My last vision of pale moonlight was slowly slipping away. My quivering body hit the murky waters. No time for last words. I may have let out a gurgle but if I did, no one heard it. That is how my life ended. Dying was a sweet release compared to the horrific events of that night. They have haunted me ever since. Here is my recollection of that night.
It was a typical fall day. The trees, once green, were now yellow. My wife and I decided to take a vacation and rent a cabin in the woods. This Halloween we wouldnât have to deal with kids dressed up as Dracula on our front porch begging for candy corn.
We arrived, and as I was unpacking the car I heard a faint howling. Daydreams quickly filled my mind. Images of full moonâs and werewolves were quickly ended however when I heard screaming. âWhat now?â I thought.
âLook, lookâ, my wife said terrified.
âDonât worry, Iâm here nowâ. I looked to where she was pointing. Part of the aged wooden floor had been smashed upwards. I walked to the edge and looked down. At first all I saw was some cobwebs. Then I saw something move in the shadows. I couldnât see anything because it was dark so I lay on my bloated stomach to get a better look. Mucous started to form deep in my throat as I realized what I was looking at. Snakes. They must have noticed me too because hundreds of creepy eyeballs and heads alike froze in anticipation to strike. I jumped onto my feet just as several struck out at me.
âEEEKKKKâ. I turn around to see something I will never forget. Multiple zombies had appeared behind my wife. Where had they come from? From the hole where the snakes called home? One had grabbed a hold of my wife and bit her. I leapt in anger and rage. My wife kicked me back flat. I had no time to react. I felt a sharp pain in my shoulder after I hit the ground.
âUghâ¦Run!â she yelled.
âHell noâ.
I got up and attacked one of the zombies. He had amazing strength and grabbed me by the neck strangling me. I smelt the most foul and ghoulish breath hit my face. I look to my left and see a pair of scissors on a desk. I grab them and strike the zombie. I am thrown through the open door to the outside. I look around and see an axe with rust stains. I grab it and grip it so hard that my fingerprints must have burned into the handle.
The zombieâs head made a crunch sound. I quickly decapitated it. But it was too late. I had been bitten by a snake when my wife kicked me. My vision started to blur and I was drooling uncontrollably. I stumbled off into the night disoriented and defeated.
