The Need for StarCraft

So last night I get this crazy need to play some StarCraft. Rather than messing around with playing it in linux (which by now isn't that hard) I figure I'd take the time to install XP on my lappy while I watch Grandma's Boy. 3 hours later I was still stumped by the same problem. I'd put the XP disc in, press a key to start setup when prompted, and I'd see "setup is now inspecting your computers hardware configuration..." or something to that effect and then... Nothing. Just a black screen.

I'm thinking, okay... its the cd. Try another. No soap. I pull out the USB mouse I had plugged in. Nadda. I try pulling out my expansion RAM stick, I try 3 more disc's, I try pulling out the battery and only running on AC power, I try clearing my BIOS, I try with my HDD in Bofus' laptop (identical to mine) and still the same. Even now with his, XP won't even get to setup.

I finally pop the screws on the cover to my HDD and leave it open enough to disconnect my HDD while I start the machine. XP setup loads, and as soon as I see the bluescreen, I press the HDD cover closed, and tighten the screws. Boom. XP is now installing. Great. Something was causing this issue.

The only thing I can think of, would be a bug in GRUB (G-RUB for any Kainr's out there) that caused some abnormality in the MBR that XP didn't like. *shrug* Nothing better to go on.

But I'm going to be playing StarCraft soon, so I don't really care. I just remember being told that Windows was easy to install. Oh well.
